See Bio on 99 Playboys

99 Playboys is the latest project from Jean Bertrand, the guitarist and founding member of Pine Leaf Boys.  99 Playboys play a new Cajun/Zydeco dancehall sound that is steeped in the tradition of the Cajun prairie country northeast of Lafayette. It’s a loud, rocking, “no holds barred” approach to tradition that flies in the face of those who would try to relegate vernacular music behind museum glass.

Jean (vocals, guitar, and accordion) has recorded and preformed with Lost Bayou Ramblers, The Mello Joy Boys, Dexter Ardoin and the Creole Ramblers, Cedric Watson, and Acadian Cajun Band.  Since 2005, Jean and the Pine Leaf Boys have preformed in 23 countries, 46 states, and 6 U.S. State Department tours and received 4 Grammy Nominations. With 99 Playboys Jean reunites with long time friend, zydeco drumming legend Paul "Bird" Edwards of Eunice Louisiana. Mr. Edwards (drums) has preformed and recorded with a long list of the who's who of Cajun and Zydeco including Pine Leaf Boys, Lost Bayou Ramblers, Horace Trahan, Savoy Family Band, Feufollet, Geno Delafose, John Delafose, and Roy Carrier. He has been invited to teach his rhythm and and vocal method at the Dewey Balfa Cajun & Creole Heritage Week, the Augusta Southern Heritage Week, and the Blackpot Camp.   Justin Leger (electric bass) is from the hot bed of Cajun music that is Church Point, La.  A multi-instrumentalist, it isn’t unusual to find Justin playing fiddle with a band at Fred’s in Mamou on a Saturday morning, guitar with another in the evening at the Blue Moon, then bass with 99 Playboys later in the same night! Together they are bringing a fresh new approach to the Cajun/Zydeco sound born of their years of experience in the most rocking bands in the genre
